Welcome to the South West RPS
Training Event 2024!
We are pleased to announce that the South West RPS Training Event 2024 will take place on 1st October 2024 in Taunton.
This training day is suitable for persons appointed to the role of Radiation Protection Supervisor, or developing towards this role.
The training day will be split into two parts:
Part 1: Basic Training (aimed at those developing towards RPS),
Part 2: Update Training (aimed at both those developing towards RPS and as a refresher for those already appointed).
Workshops will be delivered in the afternoon session focussing on specific healthcare settings such as nuclear medicine, radiotherapy, diagnostic radiology, dental and mammography. This will be adapted to the specialisms of those attending where possible, please let us know your work area when booking onto the course.
We will cover the following
- The effects of ionising radiation on the body
- The requirements of legislation governing occupational exposure to radiation Applying the “as low as reasonably practicable” ALARP principle in healthcare setting
- Practical applications of Occupational Dosimetry
- Learn good working practices such as the use of radiation monitors, dealing with emergencies etc
- Understand what is required by the role of the RPS in a healthcare setting
- Learning from incidents.
